KISS in the CITY returned to Downtown Victoria during the past 4 weeks with more prizes, more ways to enter and a panel of expert judges to decide it all.
The popular Valentine’s contest, first introduced by the Downtown Victoria Business Association in 2010, asks Victoria’s young and young at heart to photograph themselves, lips locked, somewhere in downtown Victoria and post the photo or video on the DVBA Facebook page to be judged by an expert panel. 51 photos were submitted this year, a record number for the three year contest and a sure sign that Victorians are full of love for each other… and for their city.
Submissions were accepted up until midnight this past Sunday and a panel of “romance experts” judges looked through all of the entries on Monday. The judges scored the photos in 3 categories: Location, Creativity and Romance. When all of the votes were in, one photo stood out as the clear winner: the submission from Michaela Earthy and Trenton Crawford takes the crown as this year’s KISS winner. Their photo featured the pair sharing a kiss on Broad Street between Fort and Broughton, decked out in full cycling gear with their bikes.
Michaela and Trenton are away until February 20th and were unavailable for comment but the pair will walk away with a romantic night in the city featuring a one night stay at the Fairmont Empress, dinner for two at the Bengal Lounge and a 60-minute spa treatment for two at Willow Stream Spa. The package also includes a beautiful gold and pearl locket donated by Violette Boutique, flowers from Poppies Floral Art, movie tickets to the Cineplex Odeon, and is topped off with a selection of delectable goodies from Roger’s Chocolates.
Two runners up will also win prizes in this year’s contest. Second place went to Devon Lord and Jonathan Taylor whose photo shows the Johnson Street Bridge in beautiful winter evening light. Third place in a very tight vote went to Fiona Aitken and Janik Emanuel NuB who took a more close up approach to their photo on Broad Street. Both couples will receive dinner in downtown Victoria, chocolates, and movie passes for their efforts.
Kiss photos will remain visible on the DVBA Facebook page (www.facebook.com/
