VICTORIA, BC — To commemorate the Township of Esquimalt’s 100th anniversary of incorporation, Mayor Dean Fortin presented Mayor Barbara Desjardins with a gift on behalf of the City of Victoria at an Esquimalt Council Meeting last night. The gift consisted of a commemorative bronze plaque which will accompany two new burgundy, steel Adirondack chairs and a side table to be installed along the Songhees Walkway near Head Street this fall.
“Victoria and Esquimalt share a long and important history — we are two communities joined by land and community spirit,” said Mayor Dean Fortin. “The plaque reflects this sentiment and we hope this gift brings many years of enjoyment to residents and visitors of both communities.”
The City of Victoria celebrated its 150th anniversary of incorporation on August 2, 2012. The Township of Esquimalt celebrated its 100th anniversary of incorporation on September 1, 2012. Celebratory anniversary projects and events are being held throughout the year in both communities.
