Surrey mayor invites Pakistan women softball team

KARACHI: The mayor of Canadian city of Surrey, Dianne Watts, has invited Pakistan’s women softball team to participate in Canada Open International Beach Championship to be held in Surrey in 2016.

Dianne accompanied Canadian softball officials to Cartagena, Columbia, during International Softball Federation’s Congress.

Pakistan’s softball officials briefed her about sports promotion in Pakistan among both men and women.

She praised Pakistan’s softball officials for their efforts and invited the national women team for
the international tournament.

She said that there were many Pakistani expatriates in Surrey and they would be happy to see Pakistan playing and would support them.

Pakistan softball team’s head coach Asif Azeem said that Pakistani players needed such exposure to lift their game. “Featuring in international tournaments is very important. It helps the team lift their game by competing against better teams and polish their own game and learn new skills from the opponents,” Asif said.

He said that the team was in the building process and featuring in tournaments abroad would help them gain confidence.
