Jump aboard the fast train to fun this winter, as Thomas the Tank Engine rolls into the Canadian Children’s Museum, part of the Canadian Museum of History. Thomas & Friends™ – Explore the Rails delivers an express cargo of excitement to aspiring engineers, with activities geared towards math, science and technology.
Thomas takes the central platform in this exhibition, suitable for children aged 2 to 7. Young conductors can climb aboard the cheeky little engine, manipulating valves and levers to trigger train noises. At Knapford Station, pint-sized porters can don railway uniforms to sort freight and sell tickets. Thomas’ friend Percy appears at the Sodor Steamworks, where junior mechanics can get the No. 6 engine on track by pumping water, loading coal, fixing parts and changing wheels. At the Island Exploration station, a large train table offers endless opportunities for imaginative play with toy characters like proud James, powerful Gordon, the Troublesome Trucks and the Controller Sir Topham Hatt.
After a day of interactive fun, visitors can take a break in the Engine Driver’s Common Room, decorated with images and memorabilia of Thomas through the ages. Meanwhile, babies and toddlers will find a safe play space in the Sodor Tot Spot, a padded, semi-enclosed area with activity walls and adult seating.
For more than 70 years, Thomas & Friends have captured children’s love of railway trains to tell stories of teamwork, friendship and community spirit. Don’t miss their station-stop at the Canadian Children’s Museum!
